GEONICA supplies its SEMS-3000 system for the solar thermal power plant Kathu is South Africa
On January 30th, the Kathu solar thermal power plant began operating commercially in South Africa. The solar thermal installation, which has one hundred megawatts of power (100 MW), has been built by the Spanish companies Acciona Industrial and Sener and, according to Acciona, "will provide clean energy to 179,000 homes in the Northern Cape region in the north of the country, and will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of six million tons of CO2 over the next 20 years".
Acciona Industrial and Sener have been the companies in charge of providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the project, for which GEONICA has supplied its SEMS-3000 system consisting of 3 METEODATA stations with solar tracker model SUNTRACKER-3000 and software GEONICA Suite 4K, connected to the monitoring system of the plant.

Previously, GEONICA supplied another SEMS-3000 system with 3 stations and solar tracker for the Bokpoort thermosolar plant (Upington). This is another project, developed jointly by Acciona and Sener in South Africa. The 50 MW Bokpoort plant was inaugurated at the end of 2016.
